Director, Public Policy
(Corporate Governance, Security)

Tom Lehner is Director of Public Policy at Business Roundtable, where he manages all aspects of the Roundtable's activities on corporate governance, executive compensation, proxy voting, shareholder communications and business ethics.  The Roundtable has been cited by the Financial Times as "the most influential chief executive lobbying group in the U.S." and advocates on behalf of policies that promote economic growth and trust and confidence in the market.

In his role as director of the Corporate Governance Task Force, Mr. Lehner has actively promoted the Roundtable's positions on corporate governance and ethics to policymakers and the media.  He has testified before Congress on executive compensation, appeared on numerous panels on corporate governance issues, and been quoted on corporate governance by most of the nation's leading newspapers.

Mr. Lehner has also managed the Roundtable's efforts to improve business and government collaboration to strengthen homeland security, improve disaster response, upgrade cyber security, enhance supply chain security and resiliency, and expand screening of prospective employees for sensitive positions.  He previously managed the Roundtable's Civil Justice Task Force, which focused on the need for legal reforms.

Prior to joining the Roundtable, Mr. Lehner was Executive Vice President for the American Financial Services Association, where his work included reform of bankruptcy laws, renewal of the national credit information system, and testimony before Congress on preventing identity theft.

Mr. Lehner has extensive government experience through his work with five different U.S. Senators, most notably serving more than seven years as Chief of Staff to Senator Charles S. Robb of Virginia.  He also was appointed by Virginia Governor Mark Warner to the state's Charitable Gaming Board, which is responsible for the oversight of a $300 million dollar a year industry.

Mr. Lehner lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife Kathy and has three children.
