BRT: With Senate Approval of Debt Limit, Congress Should Focus on Growth

BRT Welcomes Senate Approval of Legislation Meeting U.S. Debt Responsibilities

WashingtonBusiness Roundtable President John Engler today released the following statement in reaction to Senate approval of legislation raising the statutory debt limit:

“Business leaders are pleased that both the U.S. House and Senate acted promptly on the debt ceiling, avoiding the kind of brinksmanship that breeds uncertainty and discourages investment. Congress should now focus on policies that will strengthen our economy and bring more Americans back into the workforce.

“We know there is bipartisan support for these growth-oriented priorities: tax reform, expanding trade and fixing our broken immigration system. Congress should build on the recent spirit of cooperation on the budget and debt ceiling votes, work across party lines, and get things done.”

Business Roundtable has laid out a set of critical policies for economic revival, “Invested in America: A Growth Agenda for the U.S. Economy.”
