PACE Coalition Letter to Congress on Debt Ceiling and Deficit

Dear Member of Congress:

As the Administration and Congress urgently work to address the debt ceiling limitation and accompanying deficit reduction legislation by August 2, the PACE Coalition -- a broad-based organization dedicated to promoting and increasing the more than 63 million American jobs that depend on the international competitiveness of worldwide American companies -- strongly urges you to reject international tax proposals that would adversely affect U.S. competitiveness.

We strongly oppose any efforts at piecemeal "reforms" to our international tax system that make U.S. companies and American workers less competitive globally. Such proposals -- which may be brought forward by some members of Congress as part of deficit reduction discussions -- would seriously exacerbate the competitive disadvantage faced by American workers and American companies in the global marketplace.

American companies of all sizes and their workers benefit when the United States is more competitive in global markets, regardless of whether they are directly involved in international commerce. Suppliers to worldwide American companies benefit when new markets are opened and their customers profit and grow. Similarly, local economies in cities and towns across the country receive the economic benefits associated with being home to a highly paid American workforce.

The time and place to consider any changes to our complex international tax system is through comprehensive and well-considered tax reform. We urge you again to reject any international tax proposals that would further reduce the competitiveness of American companies, their suppliers and workers, and impede economic recovery and job creation.

Sincerely,
