BRT Applauds House Passage of U.S.-Peru TPA

Business Roundtable applauded today’s House passage of the Peru trade promotion agreement (PTPA). Today’s action is further evidence that bipartisan action results in the creation of trade policies that help keep the U.S. economy moving forward.

Passage of the Peru TPA demonstrates that the House understands that America cannot sit quietly on the sidelines of the international economy while overseas competitors accumulate trade agreements which give their exporters an edge over U.S. businesses, workers and farmers," said John J. Castellani, president of Business Roundtable.

Castellani called on the Senate to continue the bipartisan effort and pass the Peru agreement with a full vote as soon as possible. "By passing this important pact, the Senate can help to ensure that the growing Latin America market will be open to U.S. goods and provide an important building block to U.S. efforts to create a Western Hemisphere free trade area," Castellani said.

Castellani applauded House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel and Ranking Member Jim McCrery for making today’s bipartisan vote a reality, and urged continued bipartisan support in securing the passage of the remaining pending pacts with Colombia, Panama and Korea.
