Business Roundtable Statement on Political Donation Disclosure Executive Order

Washington– “Business Roundtable strongly urges the President to reconsider his draft executive order on political donation disclosure. This order is yet another example of regulatory over-reach and redundancy that will add unnecessary cost and paperwork to business operations at the expense of workers and our economy.

“Worse still, the President and his Administration seem to be using the executive order powers for political purposes. The suggestion that federal procurement choices are the result of contributions is being seen as discouraging free speech by intimidating business donors.

“As our country continues to recover from one of the deepest recessions in our history, we must keep our focus on bolstering the economy and creating American jobs, not adding to the paperwork burden of companies trying to create jobs. Under current law, all political contributions are regulated by government and widely available to the public through the Federal Elections Commission,” said Business Roundtable President John Engler.
