Engler: Stage Set for TPA Passage and Enactment

Washington – Business Roundtable President John Engler issued the following statement on today’s vote by the U.S. Senate to proceed to consideration of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation:

“Today’s vote sets the stage for final passage of bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority legislation.

“This bill will help ensure U.S. negotiators bring back the strongest possible trade agreements for American business and workers.

“Fair rules and high standards are key to opening new markets for American-made goods and services and supporting well-paying U.S. jobs and economic growth.

“We urge the Senate to pass the TPA bill without delay.”

Passage of bipartisan TPA legislation is a top priority for Business Roundtable. Business Roundtable founded and leads the U.S. business and agricultural community’s Trade Benefits America Coalition, which educates on the benefits of trade and U.S. trade agreements and advocates for passage of modernized TPA legislation.
