Vote to Proceed on Immigration Bill Critical Step Forward on Enacting Real, Bipartisan Solutions

Today’s Vote ‘Important Step Toward Creating a System that Works,’ Says Motorola’s Greg Brown

WashingtonBusiness Roundtable, representing CEOs of leading U.S. companies from every sector of the economy, today praised bipartisan support in the Senate on the motion to proceed with debate on S. 744, the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act.”

“We commend members of the Senate for voting today to move forward on legislation to fix America’s broken immigration system,” said Greg Brown, Chairman & CEO of Motorola Solutions, Inc. and Chair of Business Roundtable’s Select Committee on Immigration. “Enacting real, bipartisan solutions that strengthen enforcement and focus future immigration policy on welcoming those who will come here to work hard and contribute to our country is in America’s economic and security interests. Today’s vote is an important step toward creating a system that works.”

Business Roundtable outlined earlier this year the major challenges that must be addressed by any reform measure in “Taking Action on Immigration: Realistic Solutions for Fixing a Broken System,” which included policy recommendations for boosting U.S. growth and competiveness by improving security and enforcing immigration laws; welcoming legal immigrant workers to contribute to America; and finding a solution for unauthorized immigrants.
