The Honorable Lisa Murkowski

Dear Chair Landrieu and Ranking Member Murkowski:
On behalf of the more than 200 CEO members of Business Roundtable, who lead major American companies operating in every sector of the U.S. economy, I write to convey Business Roundtable’s strong endorsement for Congressional approval of the Keystone XL pipeline project.
America’s CEOs have consistently called for immediate approval of the Keystone XL pipeline extension, because it is an environmentally responsible infrastructure project that will create U.S. jobs, accelerate economic growth, and strengthen American energy security.
The U.S. State Department estimates the Keystone XL pipeline project would directly employ 5,000-6,000 U.S. workers over a two-year period. The pipeline would also enhance U.S. energy security by providing America with at least 700,000 barrels a day of new oil supplies from North America – a steady, reliable, and affordable supply of energy to power American economic resurgence.
The Keystone XL pipeline project has passed lengthy and exhaustive federal environmental reviews. Because a pipeline is the safest, most environmentally responsible way to transmit oil from Canada – far safer and less polluting than transport by ship, rail, or truck – the federal environmental impact statement found that building the pipeline extension would be safer for the environment than continued reliance on alternate means of transport.
America’s CEOs are grateful for your leadership in introducing legislation that would expedite approval of this vital energy infrastructure project, and we strongly support your efforts.
We look forward to working with you to ensure that the Keystone XL pipeline extension is approved without delay.
Sincerely,
David M. Cote
