Leading U.S. CEOs Share Their Companies’ Sustainability Solutions, Successes

Washington – Today, 97 CEOs of leading U.S. companies reported on their businesses’ commitments to lower emissions, increased energy efficiency and more sustainable business practices in Enhancing Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future 2010, Business Roundtable’s annual report on the sustainability initiatives of its member companies. Business Roundtable member companies represent virtually every sector of the economy, with nearly $6 trillion in annual revenues and more than 12 million employees.

“When it comes to sustainability practices, our members are worried about more than just the bottom line,” said John J. Castellani, President of Business Roundtable. “Our businesses work each and every day to make their operations more efficient, their products more sustainable and their communities greener and more prosperous. While others talk about sustainability, our companies are out there leading the way.”

Enhancing Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future 2010 is part of Business Roundtable’s ongoing efforts to promote, measure and share sustainability best practices through two pioneering initiatives: Climate RESOLVE (Responsible Environmental Steps, Opportunities to Lead by Voluntary Efforts) helps Business Roundtable member companies voluntarily address climate change and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, while companies involved in the S.E.E. Change (Society, Environment, Economy) program work to adopt business strategies and projects that can measurably improve society, the environment and the economy.

“Today’s report comes at just the right moment,” said Castellani. “As Washington reignites the debate on climate issues, we invite policymakers to take a look at the report, which is filled with innovative sustainability solutions and best practices. Our members are ready to work with Congress to help craft legislation that can reduce emissions, increase our nation’s energy security and secure long-term growth for our economy.”
