BRT Commends Senator Grassley’s and Senator Alexander’s Efforts to Advance Multiemployer Pension Reform

Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding the release of a proposal from Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander to address issues related to the projected insolvencies of certain multiemployer pension plans and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC):

“Business Roundtable applauds Chairmen Grassley and Alexander for their efforts to strengthen the multiemployer pension plan system and safeguard the retirement benefits of millions of employees and their families. The economic consequences that would result from the failure of certain troubled multiemployer plans and the insolvency of the PBGC program are of deep concern to BRT members. We encourage Senate and House lawmakers to work together to craft a bipartisan solution to address these issues.”
