Business Roundtable Commends Passage of COVID-19 Relief and Omnibus Spending Package

Dec 22, 2020

Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement applauding final passage of the COVID-19 relief and government spending package:

“Business Roundtable commends House and Senate passage of the year-end legislative package to fund the government and deliver economic relief to millions of hard-hit small businesses and struggling individuals and families across the country. So many Americans have borne the brunt of the COVID-19 crisis, and we applaud Congress for advancing legislation to address the economic impacts of and strengthen the public health response to the pandemic. Additionally, the legislative package includes important energy measures and extensions of tax provisions that will support the economic recovery, as well as specific policies aimed at generating economic opportunity for more Americans – restoring Pell Grant eligibility for incarcerated students, increasing the Pell Grant award, providing resources to help low-income households access broadband and funding Community Development Financial Institutions and Minority Depository Institutions to continue investing in low-income communities and communities of color.
“While the COVID legislation is substantial and addresses critically urgent priorities, we urge policymakers to revisit at the start of 2021 how best to provide liability protections to businesses that follow federal worker and customer safety guidelines and assistance to state and local governments – items not included in this package. We believe the nation can achieve a stronger health and economic recovery if these items are addressed in a bipartisan manner.”
