Washington - Business Roundtable CEO Joshua Bolten today issued the following statement on an announcement made by U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai that the U.S. has requested dispute settlement consultations with Mexico under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) over the country’s energy policies:
“Business Roundtable commends USTR and the Administration for initiating consultations with Mexico to ensure the country meets its energy commitments under USMCA. Current Mexican energy policies run counter to those commitments and the intent of USMCA by favoring Mexican state-owned enterprises, disadvantaging U.S. companies and their workers and undermining the competitiveness of both the U.S. and Mexican economies.
“We applaud USTR for pursuing this case. Full implementation of all commitments is necessary to sustain broad bipartisan and stakeholder support for USMCA and to keep North America competitive and resilient.”
