January 19, 2023

Washington – Business Roundtable today met with the National Governors Association (NGA) to discuss workforce challenges across the country and explore how to advance solutions together. Meeting participants included NGA Chair and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Oklahoma Gov. J. Kevin Stitt and Roundtable CEOs from the retail, hospitality, technology, insurance, construction, manufacturing, transportation and other services industries.

Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines and Chair of the Business Roundtable Education and Workforce Committee, who led the meeting, said:

“This meeting of CEOs and governors couldn’t be timelier. There are over 10 million open jobs, and we have an opportunity to meet the moment by promoting worker training, apprenticeships, second chance employment and other strategies to connect more Americans with good-paying careers. The public and private sectors each have a role to play in developing workforce development solutions, but to make the biggest impact at scale, we’ve also got to work together. Doing so, we can continue advancing policies and initiatives to ensure America is home to the most skilled workforce in the world.”
