Business Roundtable Statement on Administration Actions in Response to China’s Trade Practices

May 29, 2018

Washington — Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding the Administration’s announcement of actions it will take in response to China’s trade practices:

“The Administration is right to pursue the objective of ending China’s unfair and discriminatory trade practices, but ratcheting up trade tensions is the wrong approach to achieve that objective. Instead, the U.S. should do more work with our allies, many of whom have also been harmed by intellectual property theft and forced technology transfers, to increase international engagement with the Chinese government to achieve reforms. This will maximize the opportunity for negotiations to produce those reforms, rather than a deal that only temporarily reduces the trade deficit.”
