Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement in response to China’s announcement of a new proposed national security law for Hong Kong:
"Business Roundtable urges preservation of the one-country, two-systems framework, which has supported stability, prosperity and the rule of law in Hong Kong and the region. Business leaders are concerned that the proposed national security law announced by China could escalate tensions in the region and create additional economic and political disruptions amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Business Roundtable urges policymakers to de-escalate tensions, support economic stability and promote the rule of law by maintaining the one-country, two-systems framework to the benefit of all parties."
