Trade Business Roundtable Statement on Section 232 Agreement with Canada and Mexico

May 17, 2019

Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding an agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada on Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs:

“Business Roundtable is encouraged that the United States, Mexico and Canada have come to a resolution that lifts steel and aluminum tariffs as well as corresponding retaliatory tariffs. We look forward to reviewing the details of the agreement.
“Eliminating these tariffs will remove a significant barrier to passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Business Roundtable will continue to work with Congress and the Administration to pass implementing legislation for USMCA this year to preserve and strengthen the $1.4 trillion in North American trade that supports more than 12 million American jobs.”
