Trade Business Roundtable Statement on Sen. Corker’s Legislation to Require Congressional Approval of Section 232 Tariffs

Jun 8, 2018

Washington - Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding Sen. Corker’s legislation to require Congressional approval of Section 232 tariffs:

“Business Roundtable supports this legislation as it rightfully places a spotlight on the wrongful use of ‘national security’ arguments to impose steel and aluminum tariffs. These Section 232 tariffs have hurt the U.S. economy and exposed U.S. exports to retaliation. While global overcapacity of steel and aluminum must be addressed, these tariffs give justification for other nations to use ‘national security’ to limit U.S. exports, causing more harm than good to American businesses and workers.”
