Trade Business Roundtable Statement on Trade Agreement Negotiations with Japan, the European Union and the United Kingdom
Oct 17, 2018
Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding the Administration notifying Congress of trade agreement negotiations with Japan, the European Union and the United Kingdom:
"Business Roundtable applauds the Administration for signaling its intent to initiate trade agreement negotiations with three allies. Expanding trade and investment with global trading partners will strengthen the U.S. economy, benefitting American workers and businesses.
"Meeting the needs of our modern economy requires that trade agreement negotiations be comprehensive, covering the exchange of all goods and services, fully protecting investors, eliminating tariffs and addressing non-tariff barriers. They should comply with the objectives and procedures of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and should proceed without the threat of tariffs.
"New trade agreements with Japan, the EU and eventually the UK will not only result in fairer trade, but also create a united front to address China's discriminatory trade practices. We look forward to working with the Administration on these goals."
