Cisco Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins Named Chair of Business Roundtable

Sep 14, 2023

Washington - Business Roundtable member CEOs today elected Chuck Robbins, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cisco, to serve as the next Chair of the organization. Robbins will begin a two-year term on January 1, 2024.

Robbins will succeed Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors, who began her tenure as Chair on January 1, 2022, and will remain in the role until December 31, 2023, after which she will continue to be an active member of the Roundtable and its Board of Directors.

“We’re excited to elect Chuck as the next Chair of Business Roundtable. He is a dynamic leader who is deeply committed to the organization’s mission,” said Barra. “Chuck has the full confidence of our members and will be an effective advocate for policies that promote a thriving U.S. economy and expanded opportunity for all Americans. I am delighted to hand the reins over to him.”
“The work of the Business Roundtable consistently advances pro-growth policies that enable a competitive U.S. economy and create employment opportunities for Americans, and I am honored to be elected as the new Chair,” said Robbins. “Under Mary’s leadership, that work has only accelerated — with the Roundtable successfully engaging Congress and the White House and launching private-sector workforce development efforts. I’d like to thank Mary for her leadership, and I look forward to building on this progress and momentum to help tackle the challenges that businesses and our economy face today.”
“Chuck leads one of the world’s most innovative companies, and he will be a superb Business Roundtable Chair,” said Business Roundtable CEO Joshua Bolten. “Succeeding Mary Barra is a tall order, and there is no one better suited to do so than Chuck. He is a pragmatic and well-respected business leader who knows how to work with policymakers on both sides of the aisle.”

Business Roundtable is an association of chief executive officers of America’s leading companies, representing every sector of the U.S. economy. Robbins joined Business Roundtable in 2015 and served as Chair of its immigration policy committee from January 2018 through December 2020.

As Chair and CEO of Cisco, Robbins is focused on helping customers around the world securely connect everything to make anything possible.

Robbins became CEO in 2015 and was elected Chair of the Board in 2017. He has been at Cisco for over 25 years and has served in various sales roles. Before becoming CEO, he was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, where he led the Worldwide Sales and Partner Organizations, and helped drive and execute many of the company’s investment areas and strategy shifts.

Prior to joining Cisco, Robbins held management positions at Bay Networks and Ascend Communications. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a computer science concentration from the University of North Carolina.
