Dec 12, 2023

Washington - Maria Ghazal, Business Roundtable Senior Vice President and Counsel, will step down from her role at the end of 2023. Ghazal is leaving the Roundtable after nearly two decades with the organization to become the next President and CEO of the Healthcare Leadership Council — a coalition of chief executives from the healthcare industry.

“Maria will be greatly missed by both the Business Roundtable staff and our member CEOs and their teams, who have worked with her and benefited from her leadership and wise counsel. Whether testifying on Capitol Hill on regulatory policy or health care or leading our work on corporate governance and corporate purpose, Maria has executed it all with skill and grace,” said Business Roundtable CEO Joshua Bolten. “As she embarks on a new chapter in her career, we thank Maria for her unyielding dedication to the Roundtable, and we are grateful for the indelible mark she leaves on the organization.”

“In her more than 18 years at Business Roundtable, Maria has had a tremendous impact on every aspect of the organization’s work. Her commitment to our members has set a high bar for every member of our team,” said Business Roundtable President and COO Kristen Silverberg. “I thank Maria for her friendship and partnership and congratulate her on this exciting new opportunity.”

“As a Business Roundtable Board Member and Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee, I have had the privilege of working closely with Maria,” said American Express Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephen J. Squeri. “She is a quintessential professional who has lifted the organization to new heights during her extensive tenure. On behalf of the members, I thank Maria for her invaluable contributions to the Roundtable and wish her nothing but the best as she begins the next phase of her remarkable career.”
