Implementation
We removed education requirements from almost all job descriptions. We want to ensure our job openings attract diverse candidate pools and qualifications based on skills and experiences, not the degrees or certifications achieved.
We enhanced our library of interview questions to focus on core values. When interviewing candidates, we ensure we are assessing their alignment to our core values of Innovation, Collaboration and Execution. We enhanced our questions to ensure that they target skills and experiences that demonstrate behaviors in support of Mattel’s core values.
We launched inclusive interview training so that hiring managers could better understand how unconscious bias can affect the decisions they make throughout the hiring process and how they can overcome these biases.
We implemented Unconscious Bias training for our leaders to help them understand their own biases and the impact they have on those around us. Participants explore their personal connection to diversity and inclusion, learn a shared language and framework for diversity concepts, and identify actions they can take to lead inclusively through the 3 C's: Curiosity, Courage and Connection.
We invested in early pipeline programs. The Mattel Future Leaders Innovating Play (FLIP) Leadership Program was designed and developed to provide historically underrepresented and ethnically diverse students with a multi-day, skill-based experience to learn more about Mattel, professional development, and career progression, and provide on the job experience. Our 2022 Summer Internship Program participants are eligible and automatically interviewed for a position within the functional areas of design, marketing, sales, development and/or media/PR.
We form partnerships to help us source, recruit and present talent that may be underrepresented in the hiring manager’s organization. We work through partnerships with professional organizations for women and people of color, campus affinity groups, DEI job boards, and networking groups including Mattel’s own Employee Resource Groups.
