Health Care System
Almost 70 percent of Americans receive their healthcare through the employer-based health care system. While the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid provide insurance to a smaller minority of Americans, the vast majority receive their coverage from their employer. Compared to public health programs, the employer-based system has been a driving force of health care innovations like value-based design, price transparency, consumer-oriented incentives, wellness programs, and disease management programs. Providing health care benefits to employees keeps workers healthy and productive, helps companies recruit and retain workers, and keeps American businesses competitive in the global economy.
