Statement on USTR Review of China Trade Practices

August 14, 2017

Washington – Business Roundtable today released the following statement by Tom Linebarger, Chairman and CEO of Cummins Inc. and Chair of the Business Roundtable International Engagement Committee, in response to the President’s Memorandum on China’s Intellectual Property, Innovation and Technology Policies:

"The U.S.-China economic relationship creates important economic opportunities as well as major challenges for U.S. exporters, innovators and investors.
“The President’s Memorandum focuses on several of the most serious areas of concern for U.S. businesses. We look forward to seeing the results of USTR’s review of China’s forced technology transfer policies, localization requirements, and failure to provide adequate and effective protection for U.S. intellectual property.
“Business Roundtable hopes this initiative presents a constructive opportunity to address these critically important issues and to promote a more mutually beneficial U.S.-China economic relationship.”
