Jim Cracchiolo is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ameriprise Financial, Inc., a global financial services leader with a 130-year legacy. The firm serves 3.5 million individual and institutional clients around the world, managing, administering and advising more than $1.5 trillion through its wealth management and asset management businesses. Mr. Cracchiolo has led Ameriprise and its predecessor firm since 2000, developing a strong, client-centric culture and a highly engaged team of more than 20,000 people. Ameriprise has been recognized for its highly trusted reputation — and was also on Forbes’ 2025 list of America’s Best Companies — by consistently delivering an excellent client experience and generating significant long-term growth and shareholder value.
Mr. Cracchiolo has more than 45 years of experience in financial services and a record of leading large global businesses successfully. In addition, Mr. Cracchiolo has an extensive financial background and expertise in long-term strategic planning and risk management. Over his career, he has built and restructured numerous businesses, and also integrated many large acquisitions. Most notably, in 2005, he led the spin-off of American Express Financial Advisors from American Express to establish Ameriprise Financial as an independent, publicly traded firm, which was the sixth largest spin-off in U.S. history at the time.
Prior to the Ameriprise spin-off, Mr. Cracchiolo served as Group President of American Express Global Financial Services from 2000 – 2005 and held the following positions: Chairman and CEO of American Express Financial Advisors, Chairman of American Express International Bank, and CEO of Travel Related Services International. In addition, Mr. Cracchiolo served as President and CEO of Travel Related Services International from 1998 – 2000; President of Global Network Services from 1997 – 1998; Senior Vice President of Travel Related Services Quality, Global Reengineering and Strategy from 1993 – 1997; and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Shearson Lehman Brothers (then a unit of American Express) from 1990 – 1993.
Mr. Cracchiolo is a member of the Business Roundtable. He previously served on the boards of directors of the American Council of Life Insurers, the Financial Services Roundtable, TechData Corporation and he also served on the board of advisors to the March of Dimes Foundation.
Mr. Cracchiolo holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance, both from New York University.
