A new report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, “STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics,” shows getting a degree in a STEM field leads to higher earnings, compared to non-STEM fields:
- STEM earnings exceed those for nearly all jobs at each educational level, and at the graduate level are only higher in certain managerial and health care careers.
- Even STEM majors working in non-STEM occupations still earn more over their lifetimes than those who majored in other fields.
STEM occupations will also be the second-fastest growing occupational cluster through 2018, growing faster than the economy as a whole, at a rate of 17 percent – making it a smart choice for America’s workforce.
America’s CEOs support policies to encourage more STEM students – Congress should too!
