Business Roundtable Announces Steel as Senior Vice President of Communications
Washington – Business Roundtable today announced the hiring of veteran communicator and policy advisor Michael Steel as Senior Vice President, Communications. Steel will join the Roundtable in January from Hamilton Place Strategies (HPS), where he currently is a Partner.

As Senior Vice President, Communications, Steel will lead the organization’s external communications strategy and oversee its message development, media relations, digital engagement and marketing functions. He will report to the President & COO.
Before HPS, Steel served as a senior policy and communications advisor on Governor Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign and as Press Secretary for Speaker of the House John Boehner. Prior to that, he was the Communications Director for Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Republican Policy Committee in addition to serving as the Press Secretary for Reps. Jim McCrery and John Shaddegg. During the 2012 presidential campaign cycle, he was Press Secretary for Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan.
Steel, who was a journalist at National Journal before working on Capitol Hill, is a frequent guest on MSNBC, NPR and Bloomberg TV and radio. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy and serves on the University of North Carolina’s School of Media and Journalism Board of Advisors. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
