Energy and Environment Business Roundtable Applauds EPA Improvements to Cost-Benefit Analysis in Federal Rulemaking

May 21, 2019

Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding an announcement by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler that the agency will take steps to improve cost-benefit analysis in the federal rulemaking process:

"Business Roundtable welcomes Administrator Wheeler’s commitment to improving EPA’s consistency and transparency in analyzing costs and benefits of federal regulation. Business Roundtable has long stressed the importance of accurate and transparent cost-benefit analysis in the rulemaking process. This EPA effort will help achieve greater balance between the positive impact rules are intended to produce and the costs those rules impose, promoting smarter regulation that supports economic growth and minimizes adverse environmental effects.”

In August 2018, Business Roundtable submitted public comments to the EPA in support of increasing transparency in considering costs and benefits in the rulemaking process. Read the full Business Roundtable public comments here.
