Trade Business Roundtable Statement on U.S.-China Talks at G20 Summit

Dec 1, 2018

Washington – Business Roundtable today issued the following statement regarding talks between the United States and China at the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina:

“Business Roundtable is very encouraged by the result of this weekend’s talks between President Trump and President Xi. We are hopeful this will lead to both important reforms in China and a de-escalation in trade tensions between the U.S. and China.
"China's trade and investment practices have prevented U.S. companies from competing on a level playing field and hurt U.S. workers. The Administration is right to demand reforms that liberalize the Chinese market and ensure fair treatment of U.S. companies.
“Business Roundtable urges the Administration, in addition to pursuing vigorously talks with their Chinese counterparts, to continue working with allies – like Japan and the European Union – to seek sustained progress on these long-standing problems with China. The members of Business Roundtable stand ready to assist in any way possible in achieving a successful outcome."
